Running round in London Town
Nearly two weeks of being in London and I don't know what I've been doing to make the time go so fast..
It feels like I've been super busy, and at the same time that I've not really done anything while I've been here.
Obviously I hit up Oxford Street (maybe more than once) and realised that that street is way too full of tour groups, so have since got my retail therapy fix in other, quieter locations (and they're indoors, so shopping in the rain isn't an issue)
I've also walked past some of the sites of the city, most of the time by pure chance - I've taken to walking to where I want to go rather than taking the tube (I wish I could say that it was because I was being healthy but in reality its because those short little tube rides add up pretty quick, so its purely for money saving reasons).
This has been the best thing I could've done, I've found so many pretty places and a couple of ones that I was so happy to have accidentally found (Stumbled across the suit shop that stood in for the Kingsman suit shop in the Kingsman movies - unfortunately however, neither Colin Firth or Taron Egerton were there...)
Of course I had to visit Betty in old Buck house. The one thing I really struggle with when I go places alone, is trying to get a good photo - not to sound insanely vain but sometimes I want a nice photo that has me in it (Yes for the Gram - I'm a millennial, give me some slack) and it would seem that the average stranger/tourist at these locations have no clue on how to take a nice photo - this coming from the girl whose only camera is on her phone, but you get the idea. A prime example of this is at Buckingham palace, I ask someone to take a photo, and she takes one of me infront of the palace. As in I'm in front of the whole palace. You can kinda see it behind me, but not really. (and no there's no way I'm posting it on here - to make matters even worse I'm blinking..) So these are the photos you get
Most of the days where I've wanted to walk around the city it's been raining, which is less than ideal, and with it being cold, taking photos while wearing wet gloves requires some talent (of which I've not yet mastered)
One of the main things I've done here is going to the theatre. It was the thing I was most excited about coming to London, I just bloody love a show.
So far I've seen 3 - Les Miserables, School of Rock and Wicked.
First was Les Mis, it was the top of my list (with Wicked) of the shows I most wanted to see, and I was not disappointed! The show was amazing, the sets never cease to amaze me (Wellington shows seem like a school production compared to the ones on the west end). I basically knew the show word for word (I may have seen the movie once or twice) but it still made me laugh, and yes I might have teared up at the end.. It was a really good show and I'm so glad I can finally tick it off the list!
| My seat was up in the Gods, like waaaay up in the gods, but it was still a really good seat! |
Next was School of Rock - I went to see it because I saw a poster on the tube and the tickers were pretty reasonably priced, and I'm so glad that I did. Safe to say it was so much better than I was expecting. Those kids in the show were beyond incredible. Before the show started there was a voice over that stated that yes, all the kids in the cast played their own instruments, and god could they play them. I left feeling talentless, in awe and wanting to be best friends with the kids in the show..
| The stage was really different from the other shows I've seen, it really felt like a concert venue! |
Last, and I'm so glad that I left it till last because seeing another show after it would have made it look terrible, was Wicked. I don't know why but I've wanted to see Wicked for years, I knew nothing of the story, and had only heard one song from it (Defying Gravity - I mean what a tuuuune!)
There was a small part of me that was worried Defying Gravity would be the one good song, or that the story wouldn't be that good, but God was I wrong.
It. Was. AMAZING
Honestly I don't know what else to say - the story was incredible and so unique, the cast were so incredible and jeez could they half belt it out. I got goosebumps in nearly every song, and on the way home I couldn't stop smiling.
Honestly, if there's one show everyone should see, it HAS to be Wicked.
And that takes us up to date!
So, until next time then..
